So not everyone owns a singing bowl or have a sound healer friend at their disposal whenever they feel stressed.
Here are 3 easy ways you can heal yourself with sound without leaving home!
We sometimes forget that our own voice can be the best and in fact most readily available sound therapy!
Try this simple exercise.
Sit comfortably in a cross-legged, upright position and close your eyes so you can focus on the energy you're feeding yourself. Take a slow inhale to the count of 4. As you exhale, make a long “hmm” sound.
Try to make the sound in a deep, monotone voice so that you can feel it reverberating throughout the rest of your body. You should be able to physically feel the vibration of the sound in your body. You can also rest your palms on your chest to feel the vibration. Do this simple exercise for at least 5 minutes.
You will realise that just a couple of minutes into the exercise, you have already gone into a very calm and relaxed state.
It has been proven in neurological studies that listening to music makes us more productive and creative; it can relieve stress and, depending on the sort of music, can improve our moods.
This is because listening to music floods our brains with dopamine — a feel good chemical essential for the healthy functioning of the central nervous system; it has effects on emotion, perception and movement. It also releases oxytocin, a natural painkiller and hormone that allows us to bond with and trust people.
Music physically heals! Fabien Maman, a musician and acupuncturist, research showed that human blood cells respond to sound frequencies by changing color and shape. His findings demonstrate sick or rogue cells can be healed or harmonized with sound.
I call this singing mediation because you can choose to chant a line from your favourite song.
I usually chant “aum mani padme hum”. The way it works is to send sound vibrations through all the energetic blockages in your system. Sound is energy and wherever energy goes, blocks just spontaneously dissolve.
Sit comfortably in a cross-legged, upright position and close your eyes. Mentally access all the blocks and pain in your mind and body. Then as you begin to sing or chant, feel the sound and vibrations entering and clearing all the blocks and releasing the pain.
Feel the sound reverberate throughout, both within the skin and all around you.
Chant for at least 10mins.
When you’ve finished chanting allow the echoes of the sound to continue reverberating within you as you continue your day and within no time at all symptoms will spontaneously start clearing!
